Veronica performs regularly as a singer in and around Canberra, predominantly as a classical mezzo soprano and in musical theatre. She is a professional secondary teacher and has been teaching music and languages in Canberra since 2004. She is currently the music teacher at Hawker College and conducts the 'Hawker Singers' at Hawker Primary School.
Veronica studied music and German at the University of Sydney (2001), and piano performance under teacher Phillip Shovk, resident pianist at the Sydney Conservatorium, completing her LMusA and AMusA in piano. Her time as an exchange student in Germany was inspirational and formative, as she enjoyed the opportunity to play chamber music and Lieder with other students. Between 1996 and 2006 she worked as a repetiteur, accompanist and choral conductor for individual musicians and choirs. It was through accompanying a friend in his singing lesson that Veronica met Reg Byers, former tenor with the Opera Australia, who encouraged her to pursue singing.
Veronica has performed principal roles in musical theatre productions and sung in a range of recitals, including as a soloist for CCS, Coro and the Llewellyn Choir.
In 2015 Veronica performed in two productions of Handel's Messiah. The first was with acclaimed chamber choir, Coro, conducted by the phenomenal Joseph Nolan which won a Canberra Critics Circle Award. The second was a dynamic, large-scale production with the Canberra Choral Society under the baton of inspirational musician and educator, Tobias Cole. In 2015 she also performed Schumann’s beautiful song cycle Frauenliebe und Leben with gifted pianist Aaron Chew.
Her most recent theatrical role was the ‘Baker’s Wife’ in Into the Woods, by Sondheim, produced by Canberra's newest theatre company, Dramatic Productions in association with ANU. This role has seen her nominated for a CAT Award for best Actress in a Leading Role. Other theatre roles have included ‘La Speranza’ in the ANU production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, ‘Maria’ in The Sound of Music, 'Gloria' in Return to the Forbidden Planet, 'Caroline Neville' in Titanic and ‘Tessa’ in The Gondoliers.
